An astonishing fact is that around 14.2 million people live in poverty in the UK: 8.5 million adults, 4.5 million children and 1.4 million pensioners. Figures from 2019-2020 show that nine children in a classroom of 30 live in poverty.

In Britain, 60% of people living in poverty live in a household where someone is in work.

The past two years have seen a huge increase in the number of people living below the poverty line, and Christmas often magnifies feelings for those who have, and those who have not.

Supporting local families

The team at WeDo want to give back, as we did last year. We believe that we can make a difference to local people who need support.

This year, having discussed the shocking, and saddening, child poverty figures, we have decided to support the Wood Street Mission. The charity is local to us and close to our hearts.

Wood Street Mission is a children’s charity helping children and families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford. They provide support to children and families in Manchester and Salford, through donations of practical items such as clothes, baby equipment and bedding, to toys and books to support their wellbeing and development. They support the costs of education, provide Book Clubs, and raise awareness of the ongoing circumstances that so many families are facing.

Something to open at Christmas

We hate to think of any child waking up on Christmas Day without a gift to open. Last year, Wood Street Mission distributed 12,500 Christmas presents.

Here at the WeDo offices, we will be collecting gifts to donate to the appeal and making a contribution to the ongoing fundraising that this incredible charity does. Our team will be working together to make sure that more families have something to smile about this Christmas. If you would like to support the appeal, even from afar, there is a range of Amazon Wish Lists where you can purchase a gift for a child and have it sent straight to the charity.

Let’s talk

We’re ready to put our money where our mouth is. Talk to us about a specific service we offer or tell us your challenges, and we’ll find the best ways to help.
